So once upon a time, almost ten years ago, I started a quilt.

To my surprise, I actually finished it. There was a long interval of it hanging around on my sofa while basted with safety pins, but a good friend’s baby shower was coming up, which inspired me to get over my fear of machine quilting, and battle the binding into submission.

Then there was a long period of quiltlessness. I wasn’t pining, necessarily. I was busy with (possibly too) many other things.

Then my mother (who had gone through a long phase of pottery) got back into quilting and came for a visit on her way home from the outdoor quilt show in Sisters, Oregon. And she asked, very sweetly, would I stop in Stockton and pick up a Row By Row Experience pattern from the store there?

And so it began —
